CANDI COVERAGE: Wish x Matthew Senna Presents: “Higher Learning: Study 001″

On Friday May 1st, 2015 sneaker connoisseurs and art lovers of Atlanta gathered at Wish to view the dope artwork of Matthew Senna surrounding the foundation of the Air Jordan 1 and other selected Retros. When gold meets one of the best retro kicks ever expect greatness to take place. I am glad I was able to experience the dopeness up close and personal.

Early arrival was suggested to anyone interested in attending the exclusive event. I jumped in line around 6:30pm to ensure entry. Being in the building was a must since I am a lover of the AJ1. The sleekness of the shoe and not to mention it being a classic staple to any true sneakerhead’s collection.

The event ran smoothly, the doors opened promptly at 7pm. The staff wore all white with WISH t-shirts that had gold lettering in support of the study 001 gold event. There was a lot of different sneaker heat in the building. You guys already know the Yeezy boost would be on the feet of a kick addict. I even spotted the Red Octobers.

For my readers that aren’t hip to WISH, its a dope boutique in Atlanta with exclusive Streetwear Clothing and Shoes including t-shirts, jeans, sneakers, hoodies, hats. I’ve been a fan since they were located on Euclid Ave in Little Five Points. The growth of the business is evident.

Circo Vodka was served during the event. I headed to the back to get my ciroc mixed with pineapple juice and ya girl was ready to mingle.

The exhibit was set up downstairs and yes security was on deck. The artist responsible for the piece was there along with Fashion stylist/influencer Renaldo Nehemiah. Senna and Nehemiah came together to collaborate on 10 pairs of the 24k gold Air Jordan 1. The piece is heavy and I was super nervous to hold it.

Everyone that came in contact with the art was required to put on white gloves.

I was able to get a picture with the duo and ask Matthew a few questions. For those who aren’t familiar with the artist and may have seen the 24k AJ1’s on Instagram or online. Matthew Senna is a conceptual artist and designer living in Los Angeles. He’s inspired by culture and politics, Matthew’s works are created with the intention of sparking thought, raising awareness of cultural issues and inspiring personal growth.

If you visit Matthew’s website you’ll discover that he has Jordan art pieces that he calls “Studies” from 1’s -13’s. The difference between his latest study and the previous pieces is that they are all bronzed opposed to gold.

I asked the artist why the Jordan brand? He stated;

“Its a cultural shoe. It connects the people”

And I totally agree with him. I was also glad to learn that his favorite jordans were the 11’s. NICE!!!
